SCHOTT® Luminous Cylindrical Diffuser and Spherical Diffuser emitting red light on a dark background

SCHOTT® Luminous Laser Diffusers

SCHOTT® Luminous Laser Fiber Diffusers are glass-based optical fiber diffusers for internal and external light-based therapies. They deliver homogeneous light distribution and uniform irradiance via cylindrical, spherical (360°), or front-emitting geometries. Integrable into catheter, endoscopic, and probe-based systems, they support minimally invasive, intracavitary, and surface treatments with high optical efficiency across visible and NIR wavelengths for PDT, PIT, and LITT applications.

High homogeneity and light radiation efficiency

Advanced light‑based medical devices require consistent and predictable illumination. SCHOTT® Luminous Diffusers achieve high radiation homogeneity and optical efficiency, supporting reliable light delivery across defined emission geometries. Extensive internal testing of our diffusers demonstrates highly homogeneous light emission and optical efficiencies of more than 80%, with reproducible results depending on diffuser configuration.

Full range of service capabilities

SCHOTT supports customers throughout the entire development process: from early‑stage design and prototyping through application engineering, customization, and high‑volume serial production. Our expertise includes micro‑assembly of complex light guides and medical‑grade surface treatments and coatings. This end-to-end support helps OEMs develop custom laser light delivery systems, laser light delivery components, and tailored diffuser solutions for specific therapeutic, geometric, or integration requirements.

Product variants

Also referred to as fiber optic diffusers, optical fiber diffusers, laser diffuser probes, or diffusing fiber tips, SCHOTT® Luminous Laser Diffusers support a wide range of medical laser delivery applications ranging from internal minimally invasive to external surface-oriented therapies. They are available in several distinct geometries, each geared towards different applications. Cylindrical diffusers provide side emission along a defined length, while spherical diffusers provide 360° emission for applications requiring isotropic radiation at the tip, and front-emitting diffusers are well-suited for planar emission.
