Product Variants of SCHOTT® Luminous Laser Diffusers

SCHOTT® Luminous Diffusers are available in several glass‑based variants, each optimized for specific light‑delivery requirements in minimally invasive medical device designs. All variants are based on SCHOTT’s proprietary glass technology and can be customized to meet application‑specific optical, mechanical, and integration requirements.
SCHOTT® Luminous Cylindrical Diffuser

SCHOTT® Luminous Cylindrical Diffuser

Glass‑based cylindrical diffusers emit light radially from the side of the fiber, providing homogeneous illumination along a defined diffuser length. They are suitable for device concepts in PDT, PIT, LITT, EVLT, and aPDT.
SCHOTT® Luminous Cylindrical Diffuser

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Typically available in diffuser lengths from 4 to 50 mm (others upon request)
  • Optical efficiency of more than 80% can be achieved, depending on configuration
  • Power settings of up to several hundred milliwatts per centimeter of diffuser length, depending on application and design, with active cooling even higher input power levels are possible
  • Broad wavelength support in the visible and near‑infrared range

YOUR ADVANTAGES

  • Homogeneous and reproducible light emission along the diffuser length
  • Glass‑based design supports stable optical performance and low heat emission
  • Coating and shielding options available for directed or sectional radiation profiles.
  • Customizable diffuser length, diameter, fibers, and connectors to match OEM device architectures
SCHOTT® Luminous Spherical Diffuser

SCHOTT® Luminous Spherical Diffuser

SCHOTT® Luminous spherical diffusers generate a highly homogeneous 360° light emission pattern from the distal fiber tip. They are well‑suited for interstitial light‑delivery concepts and laser‑induced thermal therapy (LITT) device designs.
SCHOTT® Luminous Spherical Diffuser

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Isotropic, omni‑directional light emission
  • Typical diffuser diameters in the sub‑millimeter to millimeter range
  • Supports high optical power transmission with low heat emission
  • Suitable for near‑infrared wavelengths

YOUR ADVANTAGES

  • Uniform illumination in all directions from a single point or adaptable light distribution due to advanced post processing steps
  • Predictable optical behavior supported by glass material properties
  • Reliable performance at higher power levels compared to polymer‑based alternatives
SCHOTT® Luminous Front-Emitting Diffuser

SCHOTT® Luminous Front-Emitting Diffuser

Our front‑emitting diffusers are used for forward directed medical light treatments in which light is radiated from the distal tip of the fiber for defined, directional illumination.
SCHOTT® Luminous Front-Emitting Diffuser

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Forward‑emitting geometry with controlled beam broadening
  • Diffuser diameters can be adjusted to match the delivery fiber
  • Optical components can be combined to shape the emitted beam
  • Custom geometries available upon request

YOUR ADVANTAGES

  • Precise control of forward light emission
  • Suitable for device designs requiring defined surface or spot illumination
  • Flexible optical design options through customized beam shaping
  • Straightforward integration into fiber‑based delivery systems
SCHOTT® Luminous Special-Shaped Diffuser

SCHOTT® Luminous Special-Shaped Diffuser

Our special‑shaped diffusers are customized variants developed for applications with specific optical or spatial requirements. These solutions facilitate laser delivery in restricted, hard-to-access areas.
SCHOTT® Luminous Special-Shaped Diffuser

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Customized emission profiles, angles, or segmented illumination zones
  • Based on cylindrical or front‑emitting diffuser designs
  • Tailored geometries developed in close cooperation with the customer

YOUR ADVANTAGES

  • Enables highly application‑specific light‑delivery concepts
  • Supports directed, sectional, or restricted illumination areas
  • Ideal for complex or space‑constrained device architectures
