ANNUAL RESULTS: Solid financial figures and invests in future business
Despite the global crises, SCHOTT closed the fiscal year 2021/22 with solid key financial results. A diverse product portfolio contributed to EUR 2.8 billion sales growth. The main contributors to the company’s positive results were the pharmaceutical business and components for medical devices and semiconductors. SCHOTT sees future opportunities with its ultra-thin glass for the astronomy and space industry. Increased energy and raw material costs remain a challenge. Further investments of EUR 500 million are planned for 2023.

ZERODUR® mirror substrates for the ELT
For astronomers, broadening horizons means reaching for the stars. The European Southern Observatory (ESO) helps to make this happen. Currently ESO is working on the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), the world´s most powerful telescope. SCHOTT is participating in this exciting project by manufacturing the substrate material for four out of the ELT’s five mirrors. Due to its unique properties, ZERODUR® glass-ceramic enables extreme shape accuracy and ensures sharp images from space. The glass experts have produced more than half of the ZERODUR® mirror blanks for the segmented 39-meter primary mirror. The ELT is scheduled to see its first light in 2027.
