50% lower CO₂e footprint

By implementing a completely new electric tank technology by the beginning of 2027 and by using 100% green electricity, SCHOTT Tubing strives for emission savings. The new product line FIOLAX® Pro OCF (Optimized Carbon Footprint) with a 50% lower CO₂e footprint* is the result. This milestone is represented as well in our PCF declaration, which sets a new benchmark for the specialty glass industry. This detailed declaration provides the calculated PCF value for FIOLAX® Pro OCF according to a standardized guideline ensuring transparency and reliability. For the first time both - the guideline for the calculation and the PCF value itself - are certfied by the external, accredited institute GUTcert.

FIOLAX® Pro OCF – as part of the FIOLAX® Pro family - is a dedicated Type I borosilicate glass, free of heavy metals, that boasts outstanding hydrolytic resistance and has an improved extractable profile. It will be available for all container formats like syringes, cartridges, vials as well as for ampoules and comes in an outside diameter range from 6.85 mm up to 40.00 mm.

Transparency is the key

SCHOTT - as a leading pioneer in the glass industry - developed a standardized approach for the calculation of product carbon footprints across its several business units. This PCF guideline builds the basis for the calculation and ensures a high degree of reliability as well as transparency. It is certified by the external, accredited institute GUTcert.

This enables our customers for the first time to calculate their Scope 3 emissions in a transparent, reliable way and achieving their environmental goals.

We need to act now

The business unit Tubing is one of the biggest contributors to SCHOTT's ambitious climate targets. An innovative electric tank technology powered by 100% green electricity will be the game changer by the beginning of 2027. The result: a decarbonized, pharmaceutical glass production on a big scale on highest quality level, as usual for pharmaceutical industry.
SCHOTT invests about 40 Mio Euro in this future technology and set a new standard in the industry, partly supported by the German government and European Union.
