SCHOTT presents award-winning fire-viewing panels to the US

SCHOTT, one of the world’s leading manufacturer of specialty glass and international technology group, is bringing two products for glass-ceramic fire-viewing panels to the United States after they reinvented home technology in Europe. SCHOTT ROBAX® IR SuperMax was the 2021 German Innovation Award winner and ROBAX® NightView won the 2022 German Design Award. The products will be presented at booth 1317 of HPB Expo 2022, March 3-5 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

“ROBAX® continues to inspire the market with product innovations and now we get to highlight these here in America,” said Karen Elder, Product Manager of glass-ceramics at SCHOTT North America Inc. “Having these new options available at HPB Expo gives manufacturers a great opportunity to see how they can modernize their fireplaces.”

ROBAX® IR SuperMax is SCHOTT’s most efficient heat-reflective coating for fire-viewing panels. The new coating radiates the heat energy emitted by fire and embers through the fire-viewing panel back into the combustion chamber and this significantly more than an uncoated viewing panel. This has several positive effects on energy efficiency and emissions. Since less heat escapes to the outside, the combustion process can run much more efficiently due to the increased temperatures in the combustion chamber. Because of the higher reflection, this is especially true for fireplaces with one or more glass-ceramic fire-viewing panels. The additionally gained energy can then be used as storage energy or for heating water-bearing components, helping consumers save on heating costs. The increased heat reflection can also help reduce particulate emissions and the new coating can compensate for certain user errors. For example, incorrect air settings or the use of too little fuel. The effect of a catalyst in the fireplace can also be significantly improved.

For pellet stove manufacturers, ROBAX® NightView creates opportunities for differentiation, easy installation, and potential cost savings. The material can replace double-glazing that usually consists of a glass-ceramic fire-viewing panel and a tinted front panel. This 0.16-inch thick panel also unveils new options in design and construction as it is easily installed into pellet stoves of different sizes and shapes. When heating, a pellet fire’s flames seem calmer and have a naturally warm color. When the fireplace is not in use, the dirt and soot inside the combustion chamber is barely visible, creating a modern dead-front effect that is pleasing the eye.

Additionally, SCHOTT’s booth will have demonstrations of ROBAX® Magic with Signature Impressions for gas fireplaces. The broad portfolio of colored glass-ceramics creates visual effects like bigger flames and a deeper combustion chamber, and allows greater design flexibility on textured surfaces, including print decorations on the glass-ceramic inner linings. The panels provide a modern look with lasting impressions, even when the gas fireplace is off.

 

Kick off BBQ season with glass-ceramics

Besides fireplace innovations, SCHOTT will also highlight a collection of NEXTREMA® glass-ceramics engineered and designed for extreme conditions like outdoor grill lids and windows or infrared heater covers. The impressive thermal shock resistance and superb infrared transmission credentials of the material make it ideal for a range of domestic applications like new design possibilities for barbecue grills or stylish and functional patio heaters. NEXTREMA® is heat-resistant up to 1,742 °F depending on the material variant and possesses a high mechanical strength that does not require thermal toughening.
