Dr. David L. Griscom
He was one of the first scientists to use the new electron spin resonance technology on glasses and transferred this lattice defect approach from solid-state physics over to the amorphous and glassy state. He succeeded in identifying a large number of defects caused by high-energy radiation, drawing fibers or chemical reactions and additives by combining various examination techniques. Interpreting the defects that result in quartz glasses was of great technological importance to the technology of optical communications based on waveguide fibers.
