NEXTREMA®

NEXTREMA® glass-ceramic comes in a range of six different variants, each with a unique set of properties. Developed for extreme conditions, NEXTREMA® offers engineers and designers a platform for innovative functions and designs. Discover which one is right for you.
NEXTREMA® transparent

NEXTREMA® transparent

NEXTREMA® transparent is the glass-ceramic with the highest resistance to temperature shocks out of all six variants, able to withstand even drastic temperature differences of up to 820°C. Along with high transmission in the shortwave infrared range, this makes this glass-ceramic top choice for high-temperature processes.

Temperature shock resistant, infrared-permeable, transparent: this glass all-rounder with clear through-vision has enormous potential in all areas of industrial and product design, and is the material of choice when processes need to be monitored or inner workings made visible – especially at high temperatures.

  • Fire and ice? Nothing shocks this glass-ceramic. Temperature shock-resistance up to 820°C.
  • A linear thermal glass expansion coefficient of almost zero.
  • Transmits shortwave light, with high transmission in the infrared spectrum.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

  • Cover plates for radiant heating elements in industrial processes.
  • Inspection windows for high-temperature processes.
  • Support plates for high-temperature processes.
  • Substrates for transparent thin-layer heating elements.
NEXTREMA® translucent white

NEXTREMA® translucent white

NEXTREMA® translucent white is a high IR transmission glass-ceramic. This glass-ceramic possesses the widest IR transmission range (below 2,800 nm) of all NEXTREMA® types. It also has an impressive chemical resistance, maintaining this resistance according to DIN 12116 even when it comes into contact with aggressive acids or bases.

This translucent white variant also appeals to designers and engineers, who use its attractive visible light transference in their LED lighting systems to add atmosphere and illumination in areas of industrial and product design.

  • Reduction of visible light in combination with high infrared transmission.
  • Almost invincible in the face of acids and bases with outstanding chemical resistance (for details see chemical properties).

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

  • Glare-reducing covers for radiant heaters.
  • Elegant cover plates for indoor and outdoor heaters.
  • Heat beds for 3D printers.
NEXTREMA® opaque white

NEXTREMA® opaque white

This durable glass ceramic scores particularly well with its extremely high temperature resistance of up to 950 ° C. This makes the opaque white SCHOTT NEXTREMA® variant ideal for industrial high-temperature and microwave applications. It is convincing wherever low radiation should be allowed to pass in the wavelength range of visible light and the IR range.

Alongside outstanding chemical resistance to acids and bases to DIN 12116, ISO 695 and DIN ISO 719 standards allow the homogeneously colored glass-ceramic to withstand even the most demanding conditions. This visually appealing and non-porous glass-ceramic is also used by designers and architects to add a sophisticated touch to a range of designs.

  • Able to withstand temperatures of up to 950°C.
  • Excellent heat insulation thanks to low transmission in the shortwave IR spectrum.
  • Chemically resistant glass-ceramic, even in aggressive environments. Acids, bases and hydrolytic influences according to DIN 12116, ISO 695 und DIN ISO 719 have no impact on this material. For further details see chemical properties.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

  • Inner lining for high-temperature cleanroom furnaces.
  • Easy-clean cover plates for magnetrons in microwave ovens.
  • Decorative element for applications in the fields of architecture, furniture and the household appliance industry.
  • Light diffusers for the lighting sector.

NEXTREMA® tinted

NEXTREMA® tinted

The tinted variant of SCHOTT NEXTREMA® is characterized by high robustness alongside high resistance to temperature shock. With a dark tint throughout, it has the highest flexural strength of all NEXTREMA® variants, able to withstand up to 165 megapascals.

Other key features are its excellent transmission capacity for infrared radiation and near-zero thermal expansion, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor heaters in both domestic and industrial settings.

  • Extraordinary bending strength of up to 165 MPa (for 4 mm thick glass-ceramic).
  • Reduction of visible light in combination with high infrared transmission.
  • Good transmittance for IR radiation.
  • High degree of resistance to temperature shocks of up to 800°C and a linear thermal expansion coefficient of almost zero.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

  • Attractive covers for indoor and outdoor radiant heaters.
  • Glare-reducing covers for infrared heaters (for example,  in industrial drying processes).
  • Decorative element for applications in the fields of architecture, furniture and the household appliance industry.
NEXTREMA® translucent bluegrey

NEXTREMA® translucent bluegrey

The translucent bluegrey variant of SCHOTT NEXTREMA® is known for its excellent infrared wave transmission and versatile range of material properties. With a high mechanical stress combined with resistance to temperature and chemicals, it’s a favorite of industrial engineers and designers.

The material also has an impressive ‘dead-front’ lighting effect – when viewed from the top none of the parts below are visible, yet the light still shines from below. Taken with its attractive color, this translucent, bluegrey glass-ceramic serves as a visual highlight for industrial and product design.

  • Reduction of visible light in combination with high infrared transmission.
  • High bending strength (150 MPa for materials of 4 mm thickness).
  • Unique, translucent design.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

  • Elegant cover plates for indoor and outdoor heaters.
  • Decorative element for applications in the fields of architecture, furniture and household appliances.
NEXTREMA® opaque grey

NEXTREMA® opaque grey

Out of all NEXTREMA® variants, opaque grey boasts the highest heat insulation thanks to its low overall transmission in the IR spectrum. This opaque glass-ceramic is used in a wide range of industries, in applications where the transmission of radiation in visible light and the IR spectrum needs to be kept to a minimum.

Able to serve as a decorative element in product design, this unique material is also highly heat resistant, able to withstand temperatures up to 950°C. This makes it ideal for use in all areas of industrial production, such as display manufacturing, as well as heating appliances and microwaves.

  • Opaque material that blocks visible light.
  • Strong heat-insulation properties due to low overall transmission in the IR spectrum.
  • Opaque glass-ceramic with outstanding temperature resistance of up to 950°C.
  • Chemically resistant to acids and bases, and corrosion-resistant special glass according to DIN 12116, ISO 695 and DIN ISO 719 (for details see chemical properties).

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

  • Inner lining of high-temperature cleanroom furnaces (e.g. display manufacturing).
  • Easy-clean cover plates for magnetrons in microwave ovens.
  • Decorative cover plates for dark radiator heating systems.
