Companies write history – and exciting stories. SCHOTT in particular has accounted for some interesting chapters. When we look back on 20 years of German Reunification, this also brings back memories of the successful reunification of our sites in the east and west that were divided too. And we managed to overcome the effects of the financial and economic crisis. Thanks to a significant rise in demand, we were able to increase our sales for the fiscal year 2009/2010 by 26 percent to 2.85 billion euros.
But the next challenges are already waiting for us in the area of energy and health care. And SCHOTT is already making innovative contributions towards these. SCHOTT Solar opened the world’s first solar plant that manufactures receivers for solar thermal power plants and solar modules in New Mexico. With its “Solar Valley”, this state is looking to become the first address in the U.S. solar industry. For the building-integrated photovoltaics market of the future, we deliver solutions not only for use in award-winning construction projects like the Campus Palmas Altas in Spain. The new headquarters of SCHOTT Solar also shows how modern solar architecture combines aesthetics with functionality and sustainability.
We are affected by yet another mega-trend: Developing innovative drugs and opening up new growth markets requires increasingly high investments from the pharmaceutical industry. At the same time, we need to find ways to establish high quality and ensure the safety of medicines all over the world. Our pharmaceutical packaging offers cutting-edge solutions for these challenges on the basis of our Fiolax® special glass tubing, a product that has proven itself for 100 years. Our know-how also helped us to develop new cover glasses for touch panels. In this case, we relied on applications expertise that we have in Asia. This is yet another corporate success story – and one that is taking place all over the world.
