The future of Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) is literally right in front of our eyes: After passing the eye in so-called plane waves, light is reaching the human retina as an image point. Aiming to produce the clearest and sharpest images possible, AR/MR glasses try their best to smoothly guiding the plane light waves into the eye.
With the new generation of SCHOTT RealView™ high-index glass wafers, manufacturers of AR and MR glasses are now able to realize a new era of smart devices and boost users’ experiences. With a further increased refractive index of 1.9, the new product portfolio of SCHOTT enables a Field of View (FOV) of up to 53° horizontally and up to 65° diagonally – which is wider than any AR device that is currently on sale (as of June 2019). Thus, this development both meets the unique demands of the industry and envisions even more immersive AR and MR applications.
