A fireplace with corners and edges

Fireplaces respectively storage heaters are central elements of interior design. Whether as room dividers or eye-catchers on the wall, they mark the focal point of the living space. Designs with large angular bent viewing panels and little to no frame are particularly popular. Because the maximum view of the flames can be experienced from several sides, almost like a campfire.

Challenge

Complex construction

For fireplace manufacturers, however, the realization of such designs is not trivial. Angular bent fire-viewing panels are usually available with a standardized bending edge. Due to physical reasons, this shows a slight curvature at the outlets of the bending edge which has to be considered when installing the panel in a frame as well as when it comes to frameless designs.

Innovation

SCHOTT ideal bending edge, ROBAX

Ideally bent

ROBAX® glass-ceramic fire-viewing panels provide a solution here. Thanks to a special bending process, SCHOTT can reduce the curvature in the bending edge by up to 50 percent. As a result, this “IDEAL Bending Edge” is up to 80 percent stronger, i.e. more mechanically resistant, and is also easier to install in frame constructions. Furthermore, it also provides a better visual impression and significantly enhances frameless designs.

IDEAL
Bending Edge

By at least 30 % reduced curvature of the bending edge

Improved gas tightness

Easier assembly of the panel into the frame construction

Much better visual impression

Up to 20 % increased strength under static load*

*Applies to bending test on universal testing machine with test format

Up to 80 % increased strength under dynamic load**

**Applies to door impact test with test format

Pure campfire feeling

An unobstructed view of the fire is also provided by ROBAX® glass-ceramic fire-viewing panels with a Big Bending Radius. Thanks to the soft bend, they enable an even more natural fire experience and an all-around unobstructed view of the flames. The “outdoor feeling” for indoors.

The extensive ROBAX® portfolio includes large bending radii from 30 to 95 millimetres as well as various sizes and shapes of fire-viewing panels.

This variety allows fireplace manufacturers to differentiate themselves through dense glass systems (when used instead of two flat panes) and more elegant and extravagant designs that would not be possible with flat viewing panels.
