Half Size. Double Safety. Ultra-Compact Electrical Terminal Headers from SCHOTT Now Enable Enhanced Safety for Small-Scale LNG Applications

Adding to its trusted, long-standing line of high-quality Eternaloc® electrical terminal headers for liquefied natural gas (LNG) applications, SCHOTT now introduces the Eternaloc® S-Type feedthrough. Delivering double-seal safety technology in an extremely compact size, the Eternaloc® S-Type opens new possibilities in safety-critical small-scale LNG applications with demanding space constraints. This includes fuel systems for trains, construction equipment, automobiles, and ships, which can utilize LNG as a fuel
Barcelona, Spain, Sept 17, 2018 - The international technology group SCHOTT, a leading supplier of maintenance-free terminal headers for on- and offshore LNG applications since 1985, now introduces a compact, high-safety addition of the S-Type feedthrough to its Eternaloc® product line. The announcement coincides with SCHOTT’s participation at Gastech 2018 – taking place from September 17-20 in Barcelona, Spain (booth N174).

The Eternaloc® S-Type feedthrough – the first of its kind – combines the safety qualities of dual-seal feedthroughs into a much smaller design – similar to that of a single-flange assembly. It enables higher safety levels for small-scale LNG applications that are unable to fit a double-seal, double-flange assembly due to space constraints.

True Double Seal for Maximum Safety
The design of the Eternaloc® S-Type feedthrough delivers an impressive feature set that offers increased safety and peace of mind for operators. In case of a compromised primary seal, the second safety barrier can support continued function and prevent hazardous gas mixing or leakage. The S-Type feedthrough also has a chamber between the two seals that enables implementation of monitoring sensors for real-time knowledge and tracking of conditions. This allows leakage, pressure changes, and any other abnormalities to be quickly recognized and responded to accordingly. The inner chamber can even be fully closed off, mitigating the risk of accidents and making the terminal header effectively explosion-proof.

Compact Size, Enhanced Application Versatility
Double-seal assemblies provide the level of security required for safety-critical transport applications, such as fuel systems for trains, construction equipment, automobiles, and ships. However, size limitations in many cases have been prohibitive as double-seal assemblies were too large to be fitted in these settings. The SCHOTT Eternaloc® S-Type feedthrough changes this: enhanced double-seal safety in a compact housing removes the barriers preventing LNG from becoming a viable fuel source in modern transportation.

High Volume Production Capability and Certification Know-how
As one of the leading manufacturers of glass-to-metal-sealed feedthroughs, SCHOTT supplies high-quality components for a multitude of safety-critical applications, ranging from specialty custom-made components to mass-market applications, with millions of pieces delivered.

“Based on our company set-up, we are capable and willing to adjust flexibly to our customers’ future demand, and can therefore comfortably cater to high-volume requirements of the small-scale LNG market,” says Thomas Goettlinger, Sales Director LNG at SCHOTT. With three decades of experience in the LNG business, SCHOTT has accumulated extensive expertise regarding explosion-proof certifications. Examples include ATEX and IECEx, as well as local regulations such as KOSHA, CUTR, Canada and North America.

SCHOTT representatives will be present at Gastech booth N174 to discuss information about the S-Type feedthrough and also display samples of single and double-seal terminal headers for LNG applications, lead-through plates for hydrogen cooled generators, oil & gas components, and other hermetically sealed products for a variety of applications.
