Reactive Dental Glass
SCHOTT has developed three high-fluoride dental glasses that help preventing the formation of secondary caries and bacteria. These special glass materials have been optimized to increase their chemical reactivity and leakage of ions such as calcium. Two radiopaque glasses and one standard calcium glass are available as part of our reactive dental glass materials product range – with refractive indices ranging from 1.47 to 1.51.
The properties of glass ionomer cements, compomeres and resin reinforced cements are critically determined by their glass component. Thus, it is extremely important to ensure high quality of this ingredient. SCHOTT offers the following advantageous characteristics of dental reactive ionomer glass:
- Through SCHOTT® UltraFine technology
High fluoride content enables:
- Quick curing
- Long-term fluoride release
- Anticariogenic effect
- Due to zinc content
Through the use of SCHOTT’s reactive dental glasses, the chemical curing of the filling is enhanced.
Since reactive glasses allow increased fluoride content, emergence of secondary caries can be prevented. In addition, zinc provides an antibacterial effect. Due to easy processing, these filling materials are particularly suitable for rapid operations.
Due to the ability of modification of their physical properties, changing the powder/liquid ratio or chemical formulation, reactive ionomer glasses can be used in a wide variety of clinical applications.
With more than 130 years of experience, SCHOTT melts all dental glasses in specially designed aggregates to produce glass of optical quality. The choice of melting technology depends on the composition and quality requirements of the individual glass type.D
Depending on the desired grain size and distribution, different dry and wet grinding technologies are used to grind the raw glass into fine powder.
Coarse grinding and grinding with narrow grain size distribution and extremely high purity levels are offered to customers, as well as the additional option of powder silanisation.
