SCHOTT helps seriously ill children
The leading international technology group in the areas of specialty glass and glass-ceramics, traditionally combines the participation in the customer survey with a donation for a good cause. This year a 5,000 Euro donation benefited the organization Make-A-Wish.
MAINZ, Germany – They have just been around the world for a few years and they have been through so much. Often they have spent more time in a hospital than at home. It is unimaginable but this fate is a bitter reality for many seriously ill children and their whole family. That is why the decision, where the donation from this year's customer survey should go to, was made in favor of an organization that is striving to make these children happy.
As a foundation company, SCHOTT assumes a special responsibility for its employees, society and the environment. This applies to all locations worldwide. "The donation from SCHOTT makes a generous contribution to helping children who are suffering from a serious illness," said Prof. Dr. med. Wolfram Schottler, General Director of Make-A-Wish® Germany, who received the donation check at the main plant in Mainz, Germany. "Studies show that fulfilling a desire can unleash new forces in the children and their families for the exhausting struggle against the disease," said Prof. Dr. med. Schottler. "Especially because of my closeness to my hometown Mainz, where I grew up, I am pleased about the donation handover with the SCHOTT, whose support is an immediate contribution to a wonderful social mission for children."
Germany, India, China - Make-A-Wish® fulfills wishes worldwide
Katharina from Germany, a 3-year-old girl who has cancer (neuroblastoma), is just one of many affected children. During a personal meeting with the Make-A-Wish team, the incredibly cheerful girl was able to describe very precisely, what she wanted: a party with colorful balloons, a bouncy castle and frogs, which she can enchant with her magic wand. While she was brought to her grandparents early in the morning, her house and garden were transformed into a sea of balloons, with a bouncy castle, children's make-up and everything she had wished for. When Katharina came back, friends and family were already waiting for her in the garden and spent an unforgettable day with her.
Yuanbao from Shanghai wished to spend a day at Disneyland and meet the character Olaf from the animated film Frozen. Like Katharina, the 7-year-old has cancer. "He loves this film. When the invitation came, he was so happy and excited. He never stopped talking about it," reported his mother. Make-A-Wish® organized a visit to Disneyland Shanghai including a meeting with his favorite characters. "We can't do much because of his illness, so this day was a great joy for all of us. I hope this happiness will have a positive effect on his health," said the mother.
The 16-year-old Chesi from India wished to be able to participate in a fashion show. "This event has transformed me into a new person, I am much more confident and positive and full of happiness," said the cancer patient on the far right in the picture.
Katharina, Yuanbao and Chesi are just a few examples. Make-A-Wish® has fulfilled more than 450,000 wishes worldwide since it was founded in the USA in 1980 - one every 17 minutes. With the donation of 5,000 Euros, more children and their families can become happier.
