Extend the summer in your own backyard with an outdoor fireplace

Outdoor fireplaces equipped with SCHOTT ROBAX fire viewing panels for a safer feel-good oasis outdoors
Once the warm summer nights have come to an end, a transition period begins that is characterized by an early sunset and cool evening temperatures. The winter time when the pleasant fire in the fireplace contributes to the cozy atmosphere and warmth of our homes has yet to come. To also address this “second season”,  the glass-ceramic expert SCHOTT is supporting manufacturing of new outdoor fireplace models for terraces and balconies. Equipped with a high-quality SCHOTT ROBAX® fire viewing panel, these fireplaces will be available not only in many different designs, but also offer safety and environmental compatibility. SCHOTT will be presenting its concept for supporting the product category of outdoor fireplaces at the trade exhibition Progetto Fuoco in Verona, Italy, from February 24 to 28, 2016 (Hall 9, Booth D18).

Outdoor activities are becoming increasingly popular – particularly among those who spend a lot of time at work between four walls. An outdoor fireplace on the patio or balcony represents a stylish design accessory for expanding our living space to the outside and transforming our own yard into a private natural oasis.
“Fireplaces that feature SCHOTT ROBAX® fire viewing panels fit in just perfectly with this growing awareness of spending time outdoors. We conducted a market study that confirmed strong consumer interest in outdoor fireplaces,” says Isabel Eymael, Marketing Director for SCHOTT ROBAX®. According to the SCHOTT study, 79% of respondents want to follow the megatrend of spending more time outdoors, especially in the cooler months. 50% of respondents are interested in an outdoor fireplace with fire viewing panels.

SCHOTT ROBAX® glass-ceramic is deformable in a variety of different ways and allows for a large view of the protected fire and generates enough heat for plenty of people. The company also offers a number of innovative 3-D designs. Whether it’s an elegant, curved fire viewing panels, modern, angular shapes or decorated surfaces – the perfect design is available for almost every taste.

Unstable weather conditions place high demands on the quality and processing of the materials and components used in outdoor fireplaces. They must withstand changes in temperature and precipitation. SCHOTT ROBAX® glass-ceramic withstands extreme temperatures of - 250° C to +760° C due to its very low thermal expansion, but also high heat and cold shocks.

The glass-ceramic panel, in particular, ensures that emerging wind does not put out the fire again or blow smoke, sparks and soot to the people next to the fire. In other words, not only children are protected when they approach the fire. There are yet other hazards, such as objects whirled by the wind, hailstones or children playing, who accidentally kick a ball at the fireplace. SCHOTT ROBAX® panels withstand the usual mechanical attacks, impact, knocks and bumps under normal use. Besides the thermal properties of SCHOTT ROBAX®, its high mechanical and chemical resistance also contribute to a long service life.

With over 35 years of experience with SCHOTT ROBAX® fire viewing panels for indoor fireplaces and more than 75 million panels sold, the company looks back on a very successful history. SCHOTT ROBAX® stands for high quality, exquisite shapes and designs, product safety and environmental performance – and it is “engineered in Germany” and certified by TÜV Hessen.
