For a bright smile: SCHOTT products for use in dental technology
SCHOTT to showcase its PURAVIS® rigid fiber rods, the new Solidur™ LED products as well as dental glass powder at the IDS show

SCHOTT has expanded its portfolio of PURAVIS® eco-friendly glass optical fibers to include rigid fiber rods. Rigid fiber optic solutions are particularly well suited for use in dental instruments such as straight and contra-angle hand pieces and polymerization units. Powerful light can thus be placed where only little space is available for illumination. Thanks to yet other improved material properties, PURAVIS® fibers open up new application areas. The transmission that has been extended in the blue wavelength range allows for integration of applications such as caries or cancer screening based on fluorescence diagnostics.

Following the sterilizable Mini LED, SCHOTT is now introducing the second product platform as well as the new trade name Solidur™ for its autoclavable and highly durable LED product line: The Solidur™ Ring LED is the world’s first ring-shaped autoclavable light source, performing efficiently over a long period of time. It is designed for applications in dental and medical lighting, especially for devices that need autoclaving. Typical applications include endoscopes, otoscopes as well as surgical equipment. Its “ring design” enables shadow-free illumination of the area of interest. Owing to its fully vacuum-tight housing based on inorganic, non-aging materials, the LED is extremely robust, resistant to chemicals, corrosion and pressure – even at varying temperatures.

SCHOTT is also introducing a third Solidur™ LED product design to complement its series of autoclavable light sources for use in medical instruments. The new Solidur™ TO LED is a High Brightness LED based on SCHOTT’s hermetic TO housing footprint, making it fully autoclavable. It is ideally suited for use in medical instruments that need a sterilizable and reliable light source at the point of action as well as for UV applications.

Dental glass is also displayed at IDS: based on 130 years of specialty glass history, SCHOTT is one of the leading companies to offer specialty glass powder that is used as an inorganic filler in dental composites. Being their main ingredient, the quality and purity of the glass powder particles is essential for the aesthetic appearance as well as the durability of composite fillings. Thanks to more than 40 years of know-how in the development and production of dental glasses, SCHOTT continues to set standards in this area. As a reliable and innovative partner to the industry, the company can look back on long-standing cooperations with leading manufacturers of high quality composites.
