SCHOTT ROBAX®: “Glass ceramic is our element”

New trend toward stylish external fireplace linings / Focus in Europe is on gas fireplaces and stoves
Mainz (Germany), February 2, 2015 – The international technology group and expert on specialty glass SCHOTT will be presenting its ROBAX® glass-ceramic fire viewing panels at this year’s ISH under the motto “Glass ceramic is our element.” The main focus of its trade fair presence in Frankfurt/Main will be on the wide variety of products that are developed and manufactured by a highly committed team. In response to new developments on the market with respect to how fireplaces are designed, the company will be placing a stronger emphasis on aesthetically functional fire viewing panels. SCHOTT also has just the right glass-ceramic products to offer for gas fireplaces and stoves, however. The company will be exhibiting at the ISH in Frankfurt/Main from March 10 – 14 at booth A16 in hall 9.2.

“We are seeing a development in the area of fireplace design that favors a greater variety of exterior linings that also include glass-ceramic as a design element,” explains Isabel Eymael, Marketing Manager for SCHOTT ROBAX®. The Mainz-based company now offers its ROBAX® Ambience glass-ceramic panels in response to this demand. They can be used as highly resistant exterior linings in fireplaces and stoves that are used to heat rooms in private homes.

Low thermal expansion is just one of the physical material properties of a glass-ceramic. ROBAX® Ambience thus demonstrates high resistance to temperature gradients without causing the material to warp or break. Furthermore, combining light transmission with its unique color opens new large format design options in conjunction with its thermal properties. This enhances the appearance of room heating devices and makes them look more stylish. These characteristics and functions are also maintained for long periods of time thanks to how resistant this material is to high temperatures.

ROBAX® Ambience is body-tinted and comes in the material colors black, grey and white. Translucent blue-grey and white versions are also available upon request. This glass-ceramic can also be decorated with ceramic colors to suit individual customer needs.

Focus on gas fireplaces and stoves

“Gas-fired fireplaces and stoves represent yet another product segment that we supply fire viewing panels for in several European countries such as the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, but also Germany. We even offer two different types of products for this group,” Eymael adds.

ROBAX® Magic glass-ceramic panels are intended for use as highly resistant interior linings of gas fireplaces and stoves. The attractive additional reflections caused by the flickering flames and how easy the glass-ceramic panels are to clean make ROBAX® Magic a real alternative to the conventional materials that are used in interior combustion chamber linings. For instance, they open up new design options for making heating systems look more attractive. ROBAX® Magic also comes in the colors black, grey, white, and, upon request, translucent white.

The product version ROBAX® TrueView offers a clear view of the fire without the panel causing any undesirable reflections. The anti-reflective coating applied to both surfaces is offered on flat ROBAX® fire viewing panels. It prevents reflections from the surrounding area of the fireplace and thus offers the best possible view of the heart of the fireplace. ROBAX® TrueView is designed especially for use in gas appliances.
