SCHOTT donates more than EUR 12,500 in proceeds from its party for employees to social institutions

Funds of employee celebration donated to Mainzer Hospizgesellschaft, Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei and Kinderhospiz Sterntaler
Mainz, November 25, 2014. On July 5, 2014, SCHOTT AG put on a big celebration for its more than 8,000 employees, retirees and family members in Mainz to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, the owner of SCHOTT AG. The guests paid the symbolic amount of 50 cents for food and drinks at the event. This added up to EUR 12,558 in total. The Mainz-based technology group has now donated these funds to three social non-profit organizations.

Salvatore Ruggiero, Vice President Marketing and Communication at SCHOTT Group, presented checks in the amount of EUR 4,186 each to Mainzer Hospizgesellschaft, Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei and Kinderhospiz Sterntaler. SCHOTT’s employees had chosen these organizations to receive the donations. “Taking social responsibility has always been part of SCHOTT’s company culture. For this reason, we are pleased to be able to support these charity organizations with our anniversary activity because they work so hard to help people in need,” Ruggiero said when he handed out the donations.

Mainzer Hospiz helps terminally ill people in Mainz and the surrounding area who suffer from an incurable disease and have a limited life expectancy. Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei (DKMS) strives to help leukemia patients. For many patients, the only chance of being healed lies in transferring healthy stem cells from a matched donor. Finding and arranging a donor is the life-saving task of the DKMS. Kinderhospiz Sterntaler in Dudenhofen is the only hospice for children in the German federal state Rhineland-Palatinate. It supports sick children with a limited life expectancy and accompanies them and their families on their difficult path.

Similar activities involving the employee celebrations that were held simultaneously at the SCHOTT sites in Grünenplan, Mitterteich, Müllheim and Landshut to commemorate the anniversary of the Carl Zeiss Foundation brought in another EUR 3,600 that were also donated to regionally active social organizations and projects in these places.
