Just cook... and don't think about cleaning!

New SCHOTT® CleanPlus coating means virtually nothing sticks to the inside of an oven window
Mainz, October 28, 2014 – Cooking is now twice as fun: the technology group SCHOTT has developed a new coating for oven doors that effectively prevents baking or cooking rests from sticking to them. Thanks to this innovation called SCHOTT® CleanPlus, interior oven doors will be much easier to keep clean in the future and thus save time. At the same time, SCHOTT is now offering manufacturers a clever way of upgrading their standard appliances into ovens that feature the comfort function “easy to clean.”

Whether it’s a crispy roast, a delicious cake or a gently cooked fish, preparing food leaves behind residues in ovens that are often hard to wipe off. Stubborn greasy films and crusts on the oven door detract from the fun of cooking because it usually takes a long time to scrub them off. Now, with CleanPlus, SCHOTT has developed a new coating for interior oven doors made of glass that prevents oil and grime and therefore saves time with cleaning.

Thanks to the wide variety of different sizes – up to 1000 x 520 millimeters are possible – these coated panes made of toughened, heat-reflective glass are ideally suited for a broad range of oven doors. These windows are extremely heat resistant and stand up well to chemical and mechanical attacks. This makes SCHOTT® CleanPlus extremely durable and capable of being cleaned with a sponge or a microfiber cloth on a regular basis.

Cooking and baking without side effects
SCHOTT® CleanPlus has passed standard tests in which cleaning agents such as oven sprays or vinegar and citric acid were used with flying colors. Thanks to the coating, less cleaning fluid is needed to remove grease spots and grime, an aspect that also helps protect the environment.

The SCHOTT® CleanPlus coating also meets the requirements of German food law and has no effect whatsoever on the smell or the taste of foods. The coating is extremely thin at between 10 and 20 nanometers, colorless and therefore invisible to the eye. Cooks will find it easy to keep their eyes on the food by looking through the glass window and household appliance manufacturers will benefit from all of the freedoms of design with respect to their ovens. In fact, SCHOTT® CleanPlus even allows them to offer an easy to care for appliance between their basic appliances and pyrolytic ovens.
