SCHOTT organizes international exchange program for employees’ children

SCHOTT’s first global corporate social responsibility project supports intercultural understanding
Mainz, September 2, 2014 – The international technology group SCHOTT organized a worldwide exchange program for its employees’ children for the first time during this summer vacation period. Under the motto “SCHOTT goes Family,” 30 adolescents each spent two weeks abroad with their exchange partners’ families in July and August 2014. The goal of the exchange is to support intercultural understanding and cooperation.

“This exchange program is SCHOTT’s first global corporate social responsibility project and I am pleased that everything went so smoothly right from the start. This type of exchange between young people is a really great thing. It supports mutual understanding and helps form personalities. International experience is becoming more and more important in an increasingly globalized world,” explains Dr. Frank Heinricht, Chairman of the Board of Management of SCHOTT AG.

20 girls and 10 boys between 14 and 19 years of age from eight different countries participated in the pilot project. Half of the participants came from Germany followed by eight participants from China. The children of employees from countries like Brazil, Colombia and Malaysia also participated.

The young people lived together with the respective families and took part in family life. They used their stays to get to know each other better and form personal relationships. The families who participated in the program worked hard to offer their exchange children plenty of new experiences. Many of the families even visited other cities to give them the broadest possible impression of their country. The exchange program will be held every year in the future. In fact, the number of participants will even be increased due to the great interest shown.
