SCHOTT donates EUR 23,000 in aid to help the victims of the Typhoon in the Philippines

Mainz, March 20, 2014. Typhoon Haiyan decimated the Philippines last November. SCHOTT AG employees and the company itself collected EUR 23,029.32 in donations together to help with the reconstruction effort by holding a fundraising campaign. During a company assembly that was held today, the Chairman of the Works Council, Wolfgang Heinrich, and Hans-Peter Langer, Head of Personnel for the SCHOTT Group, presented a check in this amount to Dr. Michael de Frênes, Head of the Malteser in the diocese of Mainz, and Dr. Kai Kronfeld, Managing Director of the Malteser in Mainz. These donations will be put toward a rebuilding project sponsored by Malteser International in a village on the island of Bantayan. The funds will help to provide 13 families with new places to live.
“Together with the Works Council, we took the initiative of holding a fund-raising campaign immediately after the disaster had occurred and the Board of Management was happy to support it. The employees donated eagerly and the company doubled the amount collected,” explained Heinrich, who added: “We are extremely pleased to be able to help give the people affected by the Typhoon in the Philippines a perspective for the future through our donation.”

In expressing his thanks to the employees of SCHOTT, Dr. de Frênes introduced the reconstruction project: “Almost everyone who lives in the village of Okoy is affected by this catastrophe and in need of humanitarian aid. The typhoon destroyed all of the houses. After providing initial emergency aid, Malteser International started a two-year project here aimed at helping these people to repair and rebuild their houses. They will also be seeking to ensure that their homes will be able to stand up to future typhoons even better. We will see to it that particularly needy families are helped,” he added.
