Glassmaker Specialist

With a product portfolio of more than 120 optical glasses, special materials and components, we master the value chain: from customized glass development to high-precision optical product finishing and metrology.

Your tasks

The Glassmaker Specialist will control and conduct all melting, forming, pouring, glass feeding, and annealing operations in Optical pots and fiber optic core bar operations. The chosen candidate will also maintain proper batch melting levels and observe, adjust, and record melting, feeding, and molding temperatures. As well as air-gas mixtures and stirring actions. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Controls the pouring and forming of glass for above operations following established procedures and instructions and checks internal product quality and product dimensions.  Trims non-conforming areas and recycles cullet.
  • Prepares forms and molds as needed.  Disassembly and inspection of bar molds.
  • Removes, weighs, marks, transports, and places product into annealing ovens/lehrs and delivers it to next processing area.
  • Takes necessary samples to evaluate product being produced.
  • Measures indexes and makes corrections to bring glass into specifications and maintains production records.
  • Controls and records coarse and fine annealing ovens in various production areas, and on weekends and off shifts checks and records readouts for the fine Annealing Department’s ovens.
  • Replaces and performs routine maintenance on defective equipment.

Your profile

  • Knowledge of monitoring work processes and temperature control systems
  • Min. 1-3 years production experience
  • Ability to lift 50-60 pounds manually
  • Ability to work in hot environment
  • Starting rate: $20.94/hr. + shift differential
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts.   Must be able to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekends, as required
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience operating forklifts preferred
  • Must be able to pass job simulation test
  • Must be capable of meeting U.S. Gov’t. security requirements.
