Machine Shop Supervisor

SCHOTT Electronic Packaging is a leading developer and manufacturer of hermetic housings and other components for the reliable, long-term protection of sensitive electronics. Your tasks

The Machine Shop Supervisor will be responsible for leading a team of tool makers, machinists and operators engaged in pressing, turning, milling, hole drilling, grinding and tumbling operations. The chosen candidate will develop and implement long-term production strategies together with management to expand capacity for current and future growth utilizing continuous improvement methodologies. Duties include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Management of the machine shop to include assignment and flow of work. Proven record of managing a staff of 15 employees.
  • Drive process improvement through Shop Floor Management to positively influence key process indicators (productivity, prioritization of work, nonconformances, yield, TPM and safety).
  • Manage personnel to success in the areas of attendance, adherence to company policies, development, training, safety and department cross training.
  • Define and implement process work instructions and job safety analysis studies working in conjunction with EHS and safety personnel.
  • Serve as technical contact in the machine shop to lead the problem solving process, provide assistance to external customers and develop/optimize new processes and equipment.
  • Ensure cost effectiveness of processes and new developments, validate efficient use of labor and material resources, increase productivity.
  • Support the timely execution of the quote/order work flow process to assure order capture.
  • Drive machine up time to world class levels via implementation of TPM and smart consumables management.

Your profile

  • Two year technical degree or relevant and equivalent machining leadership experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in machining production line management, preferably in lean manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of Mazak, Fanuc, Speedfam Thru Feed grinding, CNC machining, Swiss machining, Mastercam, and CMM is required.
  • Strong technical machining background in turning, milling, grinding, pressing, hole drilling.
  • CNC machining experience.
  • Programming experience with Mazak, Fanuc, Citizen, Speedfam, Robodrill and Makino.
  • Strong technical communication skills (written and verbal) within the machining group as well as with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities and work in an organized and methodical manner.
  • Knowledge and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret Autocad engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Lean manufacturing experience.
