Mason / Metalsmith

With a product portfolio of more than 120 optical glasses, special materials, and components, we master the value chain: from customized glass development to high-precision optical product finishing and metrology.

Your tasks

The Mason/Metalsmith will lay and remove high temperature and special brick, insulation, and mortar, as well as make vacuum tight seals, and pack electrical conductors and thermocouple leads. The chosen candidate will utilize security system for material safety and be responsible for the operation of the work order database. Duties include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Often works high temperatures, dusty conditions, and difficult access areas
  • Mortar or embed the platinum components with firebrick contoured to a pipe, etc.
  • Layout, cut, form, assemble, and weld platinum and other metals
  • Perform acid treatment of platinum components
  • Diagnose equipment malfunction or damage and estimates repair work required
  • Maintain accurate and efficient work while upholding quality control
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness within work areas
  • Implement 5S and safety principles within work areas

Your profile

  • Knowledge of laying/removal firebrick, IFB, insulation, and mortar
  • Min. 5 years’ experience with welding, sheet metal layout, and fabrication
  • Stick, MIG, TIG welding, oxygen/acetylene, and plasma cutting preferred
  • Starting rate: $22.49/hr + shift differential
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts.   Must be able to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekends, as required
  • High School Diploma or GED required, trade school certificate, preferred
  • Previous experience operating forklifts, man lifts, and other material handling equipment
  • Must be capable of meeting U.S. Gov’t. Security requirements
