Quality Engineer

SCHOTT Electronic Packaging is a leading developer and manufacturer of hermetic housings and other components for the reliable, long-term protection of sensitive electronics. Our core technologies are glass-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal sealing, thermal sensing components as well as a variety of cutting edge specialty glass competences.

Your tasks

The Quality Control Supervisor will provide the QC engineering resources to maintain and improve both the process and product quality for customers and suppliers. The chosen candidate will work with Sales & Marketing, customers and suppliers as applicable to resolve unclear/conflicting specifications. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviews customers requests for quotation for requirements, standards, special inspection gauging requirements, and completeness of specifications. 
  • Audits processes and product.
  • Communicates with suppliers on quality matters, interfaces with suppliers during audits and visits, manages the supplier audit and supplier corrective action processes.
  • Determines process and machine capabilities and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Works with a wide variety of gages, instruments, and inspection devices including manual/hand measurement.
  • Studies processes and installs appropriate data collection techniques for process/product control.
  • Documents departmental and work procedures.
  • Assists in the training of individuals in methods and procedures.
  • Determines root causes in cooperation with Engineering, and Manufacturing.
  • Supports incoming inspection and communicates with suppliers regarding SCARS and other issues.

Your profile

  • Bachelor Degree in Optical, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical or Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • Two years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Five or more years related experience in an optical manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of print and specification interpretation. 
  • Hands on experience measuring with various gages and tools. 
  • Working knowledge of SPC, Design of Experiments, Gage Design, equipment qualification, and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility Studies.
  • Experience in product and process audits. 
  • Experience in following / maintaining an ISO 9001, 13485, AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Effective communication skills: listening, writing, speaking and oral presentations. 
  • Willing to work with others on a team. 
  • Self motivated and results orientated. 
  • Ability to work with all personnel within the organization. 
  • Willing to support department and corporate policies and goals
