No company can hope to achieve success without highly motivated employees. We work hard to ensure that our employees can successfully juggle the demands of work and family. We also offer an extensive health management program for our employees.
We are committed to being a family-friendly employer. Our day care center in Mainz, Germany, is open year-round, even during school holidays. Infant day care and kindergarten groups are available, as well as an afterschool care center to meet the needs of all age groups.
The goals of the global exchange program for employees’ children "SCHOTT goes Family" are to gain international experience, to encourage understanding of other cultures and thus to support the personal development of young people. Each employee whose child travels abroad over the holidays has the son or daughter of the host family live with him or her in exchange. This means not only the young exchange partners get to connect. The employees and their families come in contact across national borders, professional levels and company divisions.
SCHOTT organizes parties for employees and their families on a regular basis. During these one-day events that also include entertainment for children and musical accompaniment, families can get to know their parents’ and partners’ working world and gain insights into the world of SCHOTT. The parties are aimed not only at entertaining families; the casual atmosphere is also used to bring health-related topics, such as ergonomics or diet, closer to the employees.
By offering various innovative working time and shift models, we try to meet the individual time needs of our employees and allow for flexible management of working time. Trust-based working hours, part-time working models, job sharing and life phase-oriented working time are just a few of the offers that are available to employees to adapt their working hours to their current life situation. Alternating home office gives our employees the opportunity to strike a balance between work and family life due to more time sovereignty. Service workplaces that employ the latest telecommunication technologies also contribute to the mobility and flexibility of our employees.
Demographic change with declining birth rates and higher life expectancy in many developed countries increasingly leads to a lack of qualified young people and longer working lives. SCHOTT counters this with target audience-specific strategies and solutions developed through social partnership. To attract qualified new staff, SCHOTT relies on employment of apprentices after successful completion of vocational training, but also on transferring the German education system to sites outside of Germany. The company supports the health of its employees through occupational health management and by developing shift models based on occupational medical findings. Attractive and flexible work models enable a good balance between work and family life and allow older employees to make a smooth transition into retirement.
The “Alliance for family in Jena” and the “Association family-friendly Jena” organized a family field day around the SCHOTT location for the people living in Jena. There was a lot of information about the topics “nature” and “forest” on the route. On the SCHOTT location there is a multifaceted family program with handicraft work, playing corner, bonfire and music.
Combining career with family life has been a cornerstone of SCHOTT AG’s corporate philosophy since the company opened its doors for business. The company’s declared goal is to create family-friendly corporate structures, and to broadcast this approach to the outside world. The audit berufundfamilie
® initiative initiated by the non-profit Hertie foundation in 1995 supports companies in creating new options towards family-oriented staffing policy. SCHOTT AG has developed measures that are absolutely compatible with its existing operations using the Audit - activities that do justice to the interests of our staff while also contributing to staffing policy in alignment with general corporate strategy.

Since 2011 12 employees started their IT bachelor degree at SCHOTT de Mexico. SCHOTT with UPAV University in Veracruz started an agreement to provide the university classes in our plant. Until today we have employees who could move up the career ladder.
We hold a painting competition for our employees’ children every year. The paintings are judged by a professional jury and the winners receive presents. We use these pictures to print a desktop calendar every year and give this to all of our employees as a present. We want to motivate our employees and improve their loyalty by making their families feel they are part of SCHOTT Orim family.
This project is arranged every year for children of our employees. Children spend nice afternoon with sports and funny activities. They participate in competitions and thus win prizes.
Reading is the key to education, knowledge, new experiences and other cultures. It is the basis for understanding, thinking and communicating. Together with “Stiftung Lesen” (engl. “Foundation Reading”) we provide free short stories for parents to encourage them to read more often to their children.
