Eternal beauty: TÜV confirms durability of the scratch-resistant SCHOTT CERAN Miradur® glass-ceramic cooktop panel
SCHOTT CERAN Miradur® is significantly more scratch-resistant than an ordinary glass-ceramic cooktop. This has now been confirmed by TÜV Rheinland. SCHOTT therefore officially offers the only glass-ceramic cooktop of its kind in the world, virtually insensitive to scratches.
Mainz, August 08, 2018 – A CERAN® glass-ceramic cooktop panel is a central component of modern kitchen concepts. The influences of daily life are the greatest challenge for the surface of the cooktop panel. Whether from the sharp edges of pots and pans or from the traces of salt crystals, over the years, the signs of use will begin to appear with ordinary glass-ceramic. Although these generally have no influence on the function of the cooktop panel, they are not pretty to see.
Patented coating protects from scratches
SCHOTT, producer of the CERAN® cooktop surface and inventor of the black glass-ceramic cooktop panels, has now made the CERAN® cooktop panel even more scratch-resistant. The unique scratch-resistant coating called Miradur® significantly reduces the risk of scratches from wear on its upper face. This has now been confirmed by TÜV Rheinland in independent tests. SCHOTT commissioned the inspecting body to more closely examine the laboratory values it had determined for CERAN Miradur®. TÜV has now confirmed these values with certification for scratch resistance, quality and controlled production.
Miradur® reduces scratches from sand by up to 95 percent and irritations caused by abrasive sponges by 70 percent. Overall, Miradur® is more than twice as resistant to scratches as a conventional glass-ceramic cooktop panel.
Miradur® was first presented to the public in the fall of 2016. The product has been very positively received by the market, particularly in South Korea. The novelty was even recognized by the ICONIC AWARDS international competition in January 2017. At the London Design Fair 2017, SCHOTT presented the prototype of a visionary cooking table with a Miradur® cooktop surface. The highlight of this multifunctional kitchen unit was the interactive cooking application on a multi-touch display with which recipes and videos could be pulled up. The FUSICS table offered an 8-zone induction cooker, which was illuminated by LED bars on the sides and – thanks to its cue states – ideally addresses the urban living trends of our time. The prototype received the “Kitchen Product Innovation of the Year” award in March 2018, which was presented at the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards in Birmingham. CERAN® glass-ceramic is melted exclusively in Germany at the SCHOTT site in Mainz and subsequently refined with the patented coating.
CERAN® and Miradur® are registered trademarks of SCHOTT AG.
