SCHOTT organizes and finances international exchange for employees’ children
“SCHOTT goes Family” promotes intercultural understanding
The international technology group SCHOTT organized a global exchange program for employees' children for the sixth time. 26 young people from ten countries spent four weeks together with their exchange partners, two weeks in each family. The program is called “SCHOTT goes Family.”
Whether from Mainz to Tokyo, or Shanghai, from France to India, or from Brazil to the Czech Republic, the program meant for most participants the first long journey without their own family. Language, culture, eating habits, the experiences that the young people made are priceless. "The special thing is that you really dive into the everyday life of the family and get a much deeper insight," said the 16-year-old Isabelle from Germany, who spent two weeks in China. "Our cultures and, for example, the eating habits are very different." Her exchange partner Wenxin confirmed that: "We have a warm meal in the morning, in Germany that is not so." Isabelle: "But we have also found many similarities. We have the same goals in life: we would like to have a good job one day, spend time with our family and friends. "During the exchange the adolescents gain unforgettable experiences and make friends for life.
“This type of an exchange is really great. It promotes mutual understanding and contributes to personal development. International experiences are becoming more and more important and valuable in an increasingly globalized world,” commented Dr. Frank Heinricht, Chairman of the Board of Management of SCHOTT AG.
Many couples also visit each other after the program again and spend the next family holiday with the new friends abroad. Getting to know the families is a positive side effect that strengthens SCHOTT in terms of a "connected company".
26 girls and boys between 14 and 19 years participated in the exchange program this year. The young people came from Germany (10 participants), from the USA, the Czech Republic and Brazil (3 each), from Japan (2), Switzerland, France, Mexico, China and India (1 each). Since the start of the program in 2014, 200 young people from 18 countries have participated in the international exchange.
