At a Glance
CONTURAN® - SCHOTT´s anti-reflective coated glass enables perfect transmission in many technical applications with an almost reflection-free glass surface.
CONTURAN® is an anti-reflective glass with an optical interference coating on either one or both sides. SCHOTT developed a coating design that prevents optical reflections that result at the glass air passage. CONTURAN® enables almost invisible protection for many applications with the same highest light transmission and a high color rendering index combined with long durability and suitability for daily use.
CONTURAN® can be used for different applications, including cover glasses for indicator boards and technical displays for medical and industrial applications, doors for food displays, protective cover glasses for lighting applications and many more. It can basically be put to use anywhere irritating reflections occur.

Summary:
- reduction of irritating reflections down to 90%
- high transmission (>98%) and increased contrast
- high abrasion resistance and chemical stability of the anti-reflective coating extends its lifetime, makes it hardly vulnerable and easy to clean
- appears to be invisible and neutral in color (high color rendering index), yet enables perfect viewing

Technical Information
These special characteristics are made possible by the sol-gel dipping process developed by SCHOTT. The base substrate is dipped in different metal oxide solutions, which creates a multi-layered coating that is only a few nanometers thick. Once dipped, the metal oxide coating layers are burned in at 450°C to 500°C.
Interference-optical extinction reduses annoying reflections on the glass surface to a minimum. These coating layers and the curing temperature ensure a mechanically and chemically much more stable coating surfaces than with the conventional PVD techniques (such as vapor deposition or sputtering, for example).

Pristine view of any display
- every glass surface of conventional float glass reflects about 4% of light (8% overall both sides)
- CONTURAN® is covered on one or both sides of the float glass with multiple layers of metal oxides
- CONTURAN® with an anti-reflective coating on both sides reduces reflections by 90%
Glass substrate types
- soda-lime glass (floatglass)
- low-iron, extra-clear soda-lime glass
- grey soda-lime glass (greyglass)
- BOROFLOAT®
- aluminosilicate glass

CONTURAN® put to the test
Mechanical durability
Thanks to its specific coating design, CONTURAN® offers an impressive 90% reduction in annoying surface reflections. Using the sol-gel dipping process developed in-house, nanometer-thin metal oxide layers are baked into the glass surface at high temperatures.
The coating therefore also impresses with top durability values: CONTURAN® is one of the hardest anti-reflex coatings on the market and is extremely resistant to mechanical and chemical loads on the everyday use, which makes it ideal for many applications in sophisticated environments.
The advantages of a dip coated glass compared to a sputtered product:

The advantages of a dip coated glass compared to a sputtered product:
- Baked surface coating via high temperature process (> 400°C) essential for very high adhesion to the glass surface
- High mechanical stability of the coating consisting of several layers of different metal oxides
- Exceptional scratch resistance and high abrasion resistance
- High chemical stability ensures high resistance to permanent contaminants
- Easy and regular cleaning possible without problems
- The result is a durable solution for numerous applications
