German Innovation Award: Three SCHOTT products nominated
No less than three products from SCHOTT were nominated by the German Design Council for the German Innovation Award 2018. Two of the products have already been available on the market for some time (PURAVIS®, HelioJet®). The new SCHOTT LuminaLine product concept, which will be launched later this year, has already convinced the German Design Council in its Materials category. All three products come from SCHOTT’s Business Unit Lighting & Imaging.
“We are very happy to toe the line with three products. In LuminaLine, we’ve sent a product concept to the competition. It’s nice to see our innovative light guide concept is being embraced, as it offers solutions for numerous industries,” says Andreas Uthmann, Head of Marketing for SCHOTT Lighting & Imaging.
Three products in the spotlight
PURAVIS® eco-friendly high-performance glass optical fibers are used in various medical illumination applications. With the development of the innovative glass optical fibers PURAVIS®, SCHOTT has launched a „green“ product to the market that is manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner and, at the same time, transmits even whiter light than conventional glass optical fibers. Thanks to its pure raw materials, PURAVIS® offers natural color and lasting stability. High-tech customers especially appreciate these qualities.
HelioJet® is well-known among frequent flyers, though they might not know they know it. The solution is used in modern aircraft cabins to help minimize jetlag through unique lighting moods, for travelers on board Scandinavian airline SAS, for instance.
SCHOTT LuminaLine is a glass-composite light guide whose interior – its so-called soul – sheds homogeneous and powerful light. Its cladding is thermally toughened to strengthen its resistance to breaking. As a result, it is extremely resistant to external influences such as heat, moisture and chemicals. Its fields of application are diverse, with no limits to its creative use, whether in the medical sector, household appliances or transportation.
SCHOTT recently received a German Design Award for its Termofrost® Smart Access
In addition to the German Innovation Award, the German Design Council also awards the German Design Award, with this year’s gold award going to the SCHOTT Termofrost® Smart Access automatic glass door system. The German Design Council is one of the world’s eminent competence centers for design and supports companies in their brand and design development.
Decision on the winner in early March
The evaluation criteria for the German Innovation Award “cover aspects such as level of innovation, user benefit and cost-effectiveness.” Social, environmental and economic sustainability also influence how a submission is ultimately assessed. Other factors play a role in the jury process as well, such as location and employment potential, longevity, market readiness, technical quality and function, materiality and synergy effects.
The German Design Council will announce in early March which nominated products will receive a German Innovation Award.
