German Fiber Optic Specialist SCHOTT unveils new Light Guide for Chinas Medical Device Industry

SCHOTT has been doing pioneering work in light and image transmission for over 40 years. For the first time the company presents a medical light guide that is especially designed for the needs and requirements of the Chinese market at the CMEF show in Shanghai, from May 15 – 18, 2017 (hall 5.1, booth K53 German Pavilion).
Sterilizable Solidur® LEDs from SCHOTT withstand more than 3,500 autoclaving cycles. The LED design and features can be adapted to customer requirements.

Light is an invaluable resource in the field of medicine. It enables doctors to see a clear picture of what matters most in medical procedures. SCHOTT’s innovative solutions cover various medical applications from endoscopy and x-rays to dental treatments. The technology company will have experts on hand to showcase its product portfolio of image guides, light guides, light sources and autoclavable LEDs.

Made in Germany, best suited for China
The SCHOTT® Medical Light Guide for China contains high quality fibers that are produced in Germany. SCHOTT fibers are acknowledged for their excellent transmission rates that enable perfect visualization. SCHOTT research revealed an up to 20% higher transmission with  SCHOTT light guides compared to other offers in the industry. In addition, color shifts are extremely low which secures constant and pure white light for medical applications. Not only the “inside” of the SCHOTT® Medical Light Guide is remarkable. The “outside” is state of the art too.

An overall ergonomic design secures comparable handling. The shielding consist of premium silicon that avoids sticky wear. A double layer bend protection offers long time durability. So does the steel spiral tubing inside the light guide that protects the fibers from external forces. The SCHOTT® Medical Light Guide is autoclavable up to 100 times and resists high temperature up to 134°C.

Leached Fiber Bundles
From the SCHOTT Medical portfolio Leached Fiber Bundles will also be on display. These flexible, coherent image guides are used for transmitting optical images from one end to the other. When combined with custom optics, these bundles can be found in endoscopes for medical and veterinary. For improved market responsiveness, SCHOTT has several standard sizes available.

Autoclavable Solidur® LEDs enable entirely new device designs
Last but not least, SCHOTT will also present its autoclavable Solidur® LEDs at the CMEF show Shanghai. By encapsulating high-brightness LEDs with extremely robust, gas-tight housings, the lighting components withstand the harsh conditions of an autoclave even after more than 3,500 sterilization cycles at 134°C. The LEDs source their incredible durability from the use of purely inorganic, non-aging materials such as glass, ceramics and metal and can withstand chemicals, corrosion and pressure even at fluctuating temperatures. This unique innovation opens many new design possibilities for developers of medical and dental devices such as e.g. surgical instruments, endoscopes or dental hand pieces.

The new SCHOTT Medical Light Guide has been especially designed for the Chinese Endoscopy market. The key critical parts of the Light Guide, the glass optic fibers, are produced by SCHOTT AG, Germany. The light guide performs with excellent transmission rates and with broader bandwidth of visible light. Therefore it can fully utilize the power of the light source to make the illumination brighter and whiter.
