High-Tech Manufacturing Process

The beginning of every RESISTAN® product forms the preparation of the glass batch. This is a complicated mixture of various high purity oxide materials, with a specific composition, to fine-tune the properties of the final product. It includes glass formers and modifiers, nucleating agents, fluxing agents, and colouring agents, all of which play a role at individual stages of the production process.
High tech manufacturing process
The glass batch is continuously melted in a furnace. After complete liquefaction, the glass is refined and homogenized to remove gas bubbles and other inhomogeneous inclusions. The so called glass belt is then extracted by rollers, which define the thickness of the glass. Constant monitoring of the belt using laser and ultrasound ensures that the tight dimensional tolerances are met.

Subsequent slow annealing to room temperature removes residual stresses that would otherwise occur. At the end of the raw glass production the glass is cut into random sheets.

In the following complex heat treatment which we call ceramization the amorphous glass is carefully crystallized. Due to the previous addition of nucleating agents, an ordered crystal structure is grown using a defined time/temperature profile. The (glass) ceramic now contains multiple crystalline phases, in addition to a residual amorphous glass matrix. This final composition results in very special properties of RESISTAN® ceramics, above all an excellent thermal resistance.

Cutting, grinding and other forms of treatment are carried out at the end of the manufacturing process of the mainly flat RESISTAN® articles. After the final inspection the product is packaged and shipped to the customer.

All operations run 24/7, to ensure efficiency and timely delivery to our customers.
