Housings for Batteries

Independent power supply for electronic devices in the industrial sector and safety engineering is often provided through the use of special lithium thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) batteries, which enable electrical devices to be supplied with high-current pulses.

Product Description

Lithium thionyl chloride batteries are frequently used in areas with extreme environmental conditions, often involving highly demanding temperature profiles. In order to protect these comparatively sensitive batteries from such harsh conditions, the batteries are encapsulated in hermetically sealed glass-to-metal sealed feedthroughs designed for conducting high voltages.

Product Advantages

Lithium and thionyl chloride are extremely aggressive substances. However, the batteries can be protected over long periods of time using special types of glass and metal that are highly resistant to both corrosion and chemicals. The glass-to-metal sealed feedthroughs ensure that the batteries are hermetically sealed and that power is conducted efficiently.

Applications

Lithium thionyl chloride batteries are used in a vast number of emergency and safety applications, alarm systems, real time clocks, meteorology, radio communications and global positioning systems (GPS).

Technology

To ensure the reliable hermeticity of these housing components, glass-to-metal sealing technology is used. In addition, the materials used in these housings are extremely corrosion-resistant. Please click on this page for more information.
