Housings for Flex Fuel Sensors

With the growing trend of environmental awareness, vehicles equipped with E85 flex fuel engines are gaining popularity in a growing number of countries. E85 is a fuel mixture that contains 15% petrol and 85% ethanol, which is derived from corn, sugar cane and other plants. It significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions.

The actual share of E85 within a vehicle must be constantly monitored to ensure that the ignition and injection point inside the engine can be adjusted. This is accomplished with flex fuel sensors, which measure the ethanol to gasoline ratio of the fuel in the fuel line to the injectors.

Product Description

Flex fuel sensors are installed directly into the fuel pipe where they are protected from the aggressive environmental conditions by our glass-to-metal sealed housing components.

Product Advantages

The glass-to-metal seal is fully hermetic and provides long-lasting protection to the sensor from the harsh environmental conditions in which these electronic sensors operate. This is especially important for flex fuel sensors because ethanol is a particularly aggressive substance.

Applications

Today, flex fuel sensors are used in a broad range of automobiles.

Technology

To ensure the reliable hermeticity of these housing components, glass-to-metal sealing technology is used. Please click on this page for more information.

The housings, which are manufactured using pressure glazing technology, are generally equipped with stainless steel because of its extreme corrosion resistance. The types of glass used in the housings are also resistant to ethanol and regular fuels.
