The international technology group SCHOTT can offer high-performance TO packages for all major high-speed single and multi-mode fiber applications. The latest SCHOTT TO PLUS® headers with their corresponding ball and molded lens caps enable the development of high-speed optical components  for data rates up to 28 Gbit/s. The company will be presenting its broad range of TO PLUS® headers and caps at CIOE in Shenzhen from September 6-9, 2016 (booth no. 1B60).

With the market surging towards even higher data rates, the 28 Gbit/s TO headers that SCHOTT offers are meeting with increasingly higher demand. TO56 and TO46 headers with their corresponding ball and molded lens caps are currently being manufactured at maximum capacity.

The growing interest in SCHOTT’s patented 28G TO46 PLUS® gives an indication of how far the data communication industry has advanced in preparing for its volume production. The corresponding TO56, which is commonly used for housing edge-emitting DFB lasers, is also extremely popular, however.

In the world of optical component manufacturing, where the “next big thing” is often the next small thing, the TO38 outline that has a nominal diameter of 3.8mm has made a great comeback in becoming a contender to fit into a QSFP+ or QSFP28 transceiver module. Alongside it, however, SCHOTT is also developing the TO33 to reach the required speeds.

The international technology group is currently benefitting from being able to offer a wide range of cap options coupled with its extensive experience and expertise. This gives the company the flexibility it needs to find the perfect balance between function and cost and meet its customers’ optical needs.

Being a one-stop shop in the case of SCHOTT means more than merely supplying caps and headers. Its Research and Development teams based in both Germany and Singapore take great advantage of being in 2 different time zones and continents. The company is thus able to respond quickly to the technical needs of its multi-cultural customer base around the world.

“For us, partnering with our customers means working with them on finding answers to their packaging needs. And our highly reliable hermetic packages are always part of the overall solution. We consider challenges from our customer’s point of view and always do our best to resolve them in a sustainable way,” William Ong, General Manager of Product Division Opto-Electronics at SCHOTT, concludes.
