The charity Run for Children was held at the TSV SCHOTT stadium in Mainz for the eleventh time this Saturday. 165,000 euros were raised, which will be handed over on July 13 to charitable organizations that support sick, disabled and disadvantaged children. The Run for Children has been organized at the initiative and with the support of SCHOTT AG since 2006.

Around 90 teams with over 3,000 runners participated once again by running laps around the 400-meter track for ten hours. The Schlossrunners, a team of students from Schloss-Gymnasium in Mainz, once again managed to run the most laps (453) and won for the sixth time. All teams together ran nearly 27,000 rounds. This corresponds to an impressive distance of nearly 10,800 kilometers or approximately the straight line distance from Mainz to Singapore. The team sponsors paid at least one euro per round into the donations pot. In addition, many companies, banks and foundations made generous donations as sponsors and partners. Since the first run was held in 2006, the Run for Children has already raised more than 1.5 million euros in total donations.

Theresia Bauer, the Minister of Science for Baden-Württemberg, participated in the Run for Children as the guest of honor. As Chairwoman of the Foundation Administration of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, she is the leading representative of the owner of SCHOTT, the Carl Zeiss Foundation. Together with the Chairman of the Board of Management of SCHOTT AG, Dr. Frank Heinricht, Minister Bauer gave the starting signal and ran quite a few laps herself.

The runners had reached a special milestone after about three hours: they cracked the 250,000 rounds or 100,000 km mark since the first run and thus circled the earth two and a half times.
