SCHOTT components and products for use in the optics and medical industry on display at ENOVA in Paris

Optical glass, filters, glass optical fibers and lighting solutions

Paris (France), September 15, 2014 – With 130 years of experience in the development and production of high quality optical glass, the international technology group SCHOTT offers a wide variety of materials based on optical glass for applications in optics, medical and microscopy. SCHOTT will be exhibiting its optical glass products, filters and fiber optic and LED lighting components at ENOVA PARIS, exhibition for technologies in electronic measurement, vision and optics, from September 16 to 18, 2014 (hall 7.2, booth C17).

With its optical glass N-FK58 XLD (XLD = extremely low dispersion SCHOTT offers a high-quality type of glass with extremely low dispersion and excellent processing characteristics. This glass is intended for use in the high-quality lenses of single-lens reflex cameras in which apochromatic color aberration correction is a mandatory feature. N-FK58 offers particularly high performance in combination with anomalous dispersion glasses such as SCHOTT’s short flint glasses N-KZFS4, N-KZFS5, N-KZFS8 or N-KZFS11. The company manufactures a wide variety of optical glasses with low dispersion in the refractive index level 0.5.

SCHOTT has significantly extended its coating expertise at its plant in Yverdon, Switzerland. As a result, the company now offers a full range of interference filters that meet customer specifications. Its selection spans everything from sophisticated fluorescence and Raman filters for use in medical diagnostics to filters for astronomy. In fact, its product line also includes coatings for high-performance, high energy lasers. Thanks to its new coating expertise, the filters SCHOTT offers are extremely smooth; they can be manufactured to have low surface roughness. The coatings are also known for their high quality and durability. Fully automated manufacturing, including optical online monitoring, also ensures high reproducibility and process stability.

SCHOTT will also introduce new lighting products for medical applications and microscopy at ENOVA trade show:
SCHOTT has developed its portfolio of lead-free PURAVIS® step index fibers for illumination applications to include the GOF120. The new glass fiber achieves an aperture angle of up to 120° with its aperture of 0.86. This means it is particularly well-suited for applications in the field of medical endoscopy to illuminate internal cavities.

SCHOTT has expanded its EasyLED series for use in stereomicroscopy to include the Spotlight Plus. It offers extremely high light output of 140 lm and therefore shines very bright. A heat dissipation device in the LED head ensures that the spot and thus the illuminated object always remain cool.

SCHOTT is also extending its range of halogen cold light sources to include the “KL 1500 HAL.” The 150-watt cold light source was developed especially for industrial and bioscientific applications in stereomicroscopy and macroscopy. Compared to cold light sources that use white LEDs, the “KL 1500 HAL” covers nearly the entire 100 CRI halogen spectrum. This means it offers the highest performance in rendering colors and performing critical color measurements.
