Russian Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare and Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers visit SCHOTT Zavolzhe plant

Zavolzhe/Russia, February 5, 2013 – A delegation of the Russian Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare and the Russian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers visited the SCHOTT plant in Zavolzhe today. The group was headed by Elena Telnova, Acting Head of the Federal Service on Supervision in Public Health, and Victor Dmitriev, General Manager of the Russian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, who were deeply impressed by SCHOTT’s expertise on pharmaceutical packaging. The visit was part of the Association’s annual conference which is held in Moscow. SCHOTT was chosen to be part of the framework program as it was the first international manufacturer to open a plant in Russia which is already fully compliant with the international GMP guidelines (Good Manufacturing Practice) – a standard that will become mandatory in Russia soon.

According to Elena Telnova, “all Russian pharmaceutical product manufacturers must comply with GMP standards by 2014. The goal of GMP is producing high-quality pharmaceuticals and by doing so safeguarding patient health SCHOTT’s plant in Zavolzhe clearly underlines the company’s know-how how to apply GMP guidelines.”

The Zavolzhe plant has been in operation for more than one and a half years. SCHOTT has significantly expanded its customer base due to its local presence and GMP expertise. It has already shipped more than 190 million high-quality ampules and vials to the Russian and CIS markets. Due to the local production in Russia, SCHOTT customers benefit from improved logistics local customer service in their own language, and products of international quality. Victor Dmitriev commented: “I participated in the opening ceremony of the SCHOTT plant in 2011 and am delighted to see what the plant has achieved in less than two years. High-quality pharmaceutical packaging is in demand in the market as new drugs and sophisticated production processes such as lyophilization imposenew challenges on packaging materials.”
