23.06.2009, SCHOTT AG, Werk Grünenplan Daylight and solar electricity through the roof Meeting place for senior citizens in Romainville becomes the first building in France to have “ASI” modules from SCHOTT on top of its roof
|
Düsseldorf, June 23, 2009 – The semi-transparent “ASI THRU” photovoltaic modules from SCHOTT are now being put to use in Romainville, a suburb of Paris, for the first time ever in France. On top of the roof of a meeting place for senior citizens, they generate renewable electricity and, at the same time, provide daylight to the rooms. The building owner, the local government of Romainville, decided in favor of “ASI THRU” photovoltaic modules from SCHOTT because they are semi-transparent and, therefore, also allow for natural lighting in the form of sunlight to pass through the roof. In addition, the building industry currently offers no other product with comparable electrical properties and a similarly homogeneous visual appearance. In addition to “ASI THRU”, “ASI OPAK” modules were also integrated into the roof. Both design versions of the “ASI” modules are based on thin-film technology that enables extremely high power output. The low temperature coefficient ensures nearly full power, even at higher temperatures.
“We are the only company in France that offers these types of modules,” notes Monica Jaouen from the SCHOTT France sales office. “Another important factor was that they can be manufactured in various dimensions to meet customer specifications,” she adds.
Technically speaking, the project in Romainville was really a challenge. A combination of semi-transparent and opaque thin-film modules had to be installed on three different roofs without any square edges. In total, the installation company Reithler mounted 231 square meters of “ASI” modules on top of the roof of the senior citizens building. These will ultimately generate around 11000 watt-peak of electrical power. Additional projects involving “ASI” in France have already entered the planning phase.
