18.06.2009, SCHOTT AG, Werk Grünenplan Impressionist Play of Colors Glass Products from SCHOTT turn a building into a work of art
|
Grünenplan/Germany, June 18, 2009. Georgette Agutte was one of the most well-known painters of the Belle Époque. She painted her most beautiful paintings while sitting in her backyard in Bonnières-sur-Seine, France. In fact, a recreation center named after her was recently completed here. A glass wall that surrounds the building picks up on the artist’s Impressionist style by reflecting the plants in a bright combination of colors and light. This was made possible by a combination of the textured and body-tinted colored glass “Artista” and the semi-transparent reflective glass “Mirona”, both of which are from SCHOTT, and the support from Verres et Glaces des Yvelines (VGY), a Lasry Group company.
The colorful glass wall snuggles up against the building of the recreation center and encourages people to dream and be creative – “a lively image in the rhythm of the seasons,” romanticizes Cyrille Hanappe, one of the two partners in AIR Architecture, the architectural firm that designed this work of art. Without the glasses “Artista” and “Mirona” from SCHOTT, this Impressionist effect would not have been possible.
The flat glass “Artista” has a unique texture and is available in a wide variety of colors. The most important advantage that “Artista” offers, and that no comparable glass can offer, is the fact that one side is textured, while the other is flat. With the flat side facing the PVB foil, “Artista” was laminated together with the semi-transparent reflective glass “Mirona” at the Georgette Agutte Recreation Center. Cyrille Hanappe notes that colorful glasses, like those used for church windows, for instance, were out of the question, because they are textured on both sides and would not allow for this type of sandwich construction. |
