Optimal radiation protection

RD 50™ radiation shielding glass
If radiation penetrates the human tissue, there is a risk of damage to tissue and organs. Radiation Shielding Glasses RD 50™ and RD 30 provide optimum protection, as they contain a high percentage of lead oxide, absorbing the rays.

The figure "50" stands for a min. 5,05 g/cm³ density.
The figure "30" stands for a min. 3,13 g/cm³ density.

Which glass is used depends on the lead equivalent, which is determined for each application.

Health protection

The Radiation Shielding Glasses RD 50™ and RD 30 provide the best protection for:

  • Technicians monitoring the x-ray process in medicine and industry
  • Technicians at mammography work stations
  • Technicians in research and development (i.e. "glove-box")

The type of Radiation Shielding Glass to use depends on the dose of radiation.

Small glass thickness

RD 50™ provides high radiation absorption with a small glass thickness

Shock resistant

RD 30 can be thermally toughened and supplied as safety glass (ESG)

Insulated glass

RD 50™ / RD 30 can be processed to insulated glass

Laminated glass

Both RD 50™ and RD 30 can be processed as laminated safety glass.

Short delivery time

Max. 3-4 weeks delivery time after order receipt

Glass versus Synthetic material(Acrylic)

  • X-ray protection glass RD 50™ / RD 30 is much thiner and lighter than acrylic with equivilent lead protection.
Thickness and weight comparison for a lead equivalent of 2,2 mm Pb:

    • RD 50™                 thickness: 7,0-8,5 mm      43 kg/qm

    • in comparison to:
    • Acrylic                   thickness: 44,0-48,0 mm  74 kg/qm
  • RD 50™ / RD 30 are always edge processed. Acrylic is not
  • RD 50™ / RD 30 are anti-static, therefore they do not soil so easily
  • RD 50™ / RD 30 can be disinfected with UV-C
  • RD 30 can be thermally tempered
  • Insulated glass can be processed
  • Laminated glass can be processed
  • Synthetic material absorbs steam
  • RD 50™ / RD 30 are:

    • More resistant against available disinfectants
    • More scratch resistant
    • Nonflammable
