Polished Aspherical Lenses

Product Information

Polished Aspherical Lenses

Aspherical lenses have a complex surface profile – it is neither spherical nor cylindrical. Aspherical lenses are produced by CNC-machining and MRF-tooling, usually for smaller quantities and prototypes.
Due to the unique surface profile, high-performance aspherical lenses used in optical elements eliminate monochromatic aberrations (e.g. spherical aberration) and lead to better overall image quality. They are increasingly used to replace a multi-spherical element assembly, thereby combining weight reduction and allowing for a more compact design.

Benefits

There are two key advantages associated with the use of aspherical elements. First, an improvement in the quality of the complete lens system. Second, an overall reduction in the weight and size of the final product.

Other benefits include:
  • Higher level of achievable transmission due to a reduction in the number of back reflections
  • Reduction in the temperature increase in the case of several KW-light transmissions
  • Decrease in the level of subsurface damage due to MRF (Magneto-Rheological Frequency) polishing
  • Fine polishing of spherical shapes
  • Improved collimating accuracy

Key Applications

Aspheric lenses can be used in a variety of applications, such as in high power laser collimators and for focusing optics for head-up-displays.
